Yarn for the Cascading Icicles Cowl

I made this neck tube pattern using some leftover yarn I had in my stash. It was acrylic, but you could use any fiber you wish! I recommend something that is warm. It is more important for the yarn you choose to be a worsted weight yarn.

Let’s Talk Hooks!

I used a Susan Bates H8/5mm crochet hook to create this cascading icicles snood crochet pattern.

If you prefer a tapered shaft hook to an in-line hook, try the Boye hook in the same size.

My favorite hooks to use are always these polymer clay handle hooks…. they are a perfect combination of ergonomic comfort and style!

Pattern Notes

The first 3 rows of each repeat are worked in unjoined rounds of camel stitch (HDC worked into the 3rd loop). The pattern follows with 5 rounds of SC sts; the first 4 rows are unjoined the 5th row of SC is joined with a SS.

notes regarding design for cascading icicles cowl

The spike stitch repeat is [HDC, SpHDC to 2nd row, SpHDC to 3rd row, SpHDC to 4th row, SpHDC to 3rd row, SpHDCC to 2nd row]. If you’d like a tutorial for spike stitches, check out my free guide here.

The chain stitches made at the start of each row are not part of the count. If the row begins with a standing stitch it is included in the count of the row.

If you wish to make this cowl a different size than I have listed, be sure your starting count is a multiple of 6; that is the number needed for the spike stitch repeat.
